Texas Medicaid is the State and
Federal cooperative venture that provides medical coverage to eligible needy
persons. The purpose of Texas Medicaid is to improve the health of
people who might otherwise go without medical care for themselves and their
children. Medicaid is different in every state. HHSC's Medicaid
Office is responsible for statewide oversight of the Texas Medicaid
Program.Medical care through the
Texas Medicaid program is available at no cost to many low-income
families as well as people who are elderly or who have a disability.
Texas Medicaid is available to families who receive TANF benefits as
well as
* low-income children under age 19,
* pregnant women,
* youths aging out of foster care,
* families that leave TANF for work or whose time limits have expired, and
* families that have high medical bills they can't pay.
