Helene V. Wenzel has an estate planning practice which includes:

  • preparation of wills, living trusts and durable powers of attorney

  • conservatorships

  • probate

  • domestic partnership documents

  • ElderWorks: planning for incapacity, long-term and Nursing Home care and Medi-Cal eligibility.

For two years before opening her solo practice, she was Staff Attorney at California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), in San Francisco, where she answered questions from consumers, private bar attorneys and legal aid staff throughout California on matters pertaining to Nursing Home placement, Medi-Cal eligibility, spousal impoverishment and asset management, and estate recovery at death.

She also handled pension counseling and advocacy under a federal grant from the Administration on Aging, recovering thousands of dollars for senior retirees and widowed and divorced spouses.

As the current Vice President of the Northern California chapter of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Helene regularly addresses California seniors and their caregivers at church, community, and social gatherings as well as seminars and special forums on elder law issues including:

  • aging

  • long-term care planning and issues of incapacity and illness

  • wills

  • trusts

  • conservatorships

She has spoken at Continuing Education of the Bar seminars for attorneys; American Society on Aging;San Francisco Glide Memorial Church; Grace Cathedral; Jewish Family and Childrens Services; Family Caregivers Association; UC San Francisco Medical Center; San Francisco State University; Senior Roundtable meetings in San Rafael and San Francisco; Spectrum in San Rafael; SF Metropolitan Community Church; and the SF Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Community Center.

She believes strongly that knowledge of these issues on aging is power; and seeks to spread that knowledge and power where it is most needed.

She is working on a book about elder issues from her perspective as a daughter, an elder law attorney and a concerned citizen. She welcomes speaking engagements throughout the Greater Bay Area.
